Gosford Classic Car Museum
Founded by Australian entrepreneur Tony Denny, the Gosford Classic Car Museum was a major automotive attraction located in West Gosford on the New South Wales Central Coast.
Opening its doors in 2016, the museum brought together hundreds of classic, vintage, luxury and performance vehicles under one roof. The idea for the Gosford Classic Car Museum can be traced back to around 2013, when Tony Denny encountered an unusual automotive retail concept during a visit to Las Vegas.
A car dealership had incorporated a museum-style display into its operation, presenting vehicles in a way that highlighted their history, character and provenance. The concept demonstrated how the environment surrounding a vehicle could influence the way it was experienced and perceived by prospective buyers.
Denny later brought his own interpretation of the concept to Australia.
A former Bunnings site in West Gosford was transformed into an expansive automotive showroom and museum, providing the space required to bring together an extraordinary number and variety of vehicles.
The Gosford Classic Car Museum officially opened in April 2016.
Hundreds of Cars Under One Roof
One of the defining features of the Gosford Classic Car Museum was the sheer scale and diversity of its automotive collection.
Hundreds of vehicles were displayed throughout the expansive West Gosford premises, spanning classic and vintage motoring through to luxury vehicles, sports cars and modern performance cars.
Rather than focusing on a single manufacturer of period of automotive history, the museum brough together vehicles from different eras and parts of the world. Visitors could move between very different chapters of motoring history within the one collection.
The presentation was also an important part of the experience. Vehicles were carefully arranged throughout the showroom alongside automotive memorabilia and displays, creating an environment dedicated to celebrating the design, engineering and history of the automobile.

Tony Denny, Automotive Invest and the Museum Concept
The museum was closely connected to Tony Denny’s extensive career in the automotive industry.
Before returning to Australia, Denny founded AAA Auto in the Czech Republic and developed the business into a large used-car network operating across Central and Eastern Europe. His experience buying, presenting and selling vehicles subsequently influenced the concept behind Automotive Invest and the Gosford Classic Car Museum.
Unlike a conventional museum assembled solely for permanent exhibition, vehicles within the Gosford collection formed part of the Automotive Invests broader automotive business.
This relationship between the museum experience and the underlying vehicle sales business would later become central to a significant taxation dispute involving Automotive Invest and the Australian Taxation Office.
The Closure of the Gosford Classic Car Museum
After almost three years of operation, the Gosford Classic Car Museum closed its doors in 2019.
Its closure marked the end of a relatively short but memorable chapter in Central Coast automotive history. The extensive collection was subsequently dispersed, with vehicles offered for sale following the museum's closure.
Although the physical museum no longer operates, its scale, unusual business model and collection have continued to attract interest.
The story also took on a significant legal dimension through the dispute between Automotive Invest and the Commissioner of Taxation, which continued after the museum's closure and ultimately reached the High Court of Australia.
